For most first-timers, the best place to stay is a boutique hotel in Alaçatı's old town, within walking distance of the restaurants and stone streets. If beaches are the priority, stay on the Çeşme coast and come into Alaçatı for dinner.

Disclosure: I own three hotels mentioned below, marked as mine. The other picks are places I genuinely recommend.

Boutique hotels in the old town

This is what Alaçatı does best: restored stone houses with ten or so rooms, a courtyard, and breakfast that takes an hour. Expect small rooms by international standards and big personal attention.

[Add 2 to 3 beach hotels with a line each.]

How to choose, quickly

Coming in July or August and want to be in the middle of it all: old town. Light sleeper: the edge of the old town, or ask for a room away from the street. Here for the wind: near the bay. Here for the beach and quiet: the Çeşme coast. Celebrating something as a couple: an adults-only hotel.

Questions people ask me

What is the best area to stay in Alaçatı?

For a first visit, stay in or near the old town (the Hacımemiş area and the streets around Kemalpaşa Caddesi). You can walk to restaurants, bars and the market, and you don't need a car in the evening.

Is it better to stay in Alaçatı or Çeşme?

Stay in Alaçatı if you want stone streets, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance. Stay on the Çeşme coast if beach time matters most. The two are about a 15-minute drive apart, so many people split their trip.

Do I need a car in Alaçatı?

Not if you stay in the old town and only go out at night. For beaches, Çeşme and day trips, a car or taxi is the practical choice, since public transport is limited.

When should I book a hotel in Alaçatı?

For July, August and the spring herb festival weekend, book months ahead. Small boutique hotels have few rooms and the best ones sell out first.

Is Alaçatı good for families?

Yes, especially outside peak weeks. Many boutique hotels in the old town are small and quiet; some are adults-only, so check before booking.
